A Casual Day Unlike The Others

*Sweater - Sheinside*
*Pants - Levi's*
*Shoes - Converse*
*Bag - EastPak*

*Kind of out of focus tho*
This outfit kind of describes me really well. I usually go for comfortable, simple outfits. You could even call me lazy sometimes, although I try to be more creative. I just like the way you could do anything you want in an easy outfit like this one, whether you run, jump or cycle. Here comes a really cliché saying with a slight sarcastic but true meaning (wait, what?) to it, wait for it...: You never know what life might bring you. Pfew! With that said, I'm going to end this post.

TOP TRENDS | WINTER 2013

Winter is approaching and I have been spotting a couple of trends I like for next season. In this post I show you my list I put together of my favorites.
**Just a quick disclaimer: I am not talking about high fashion/catwalk style kinda things. I feel like designer pieces like that are not made for me to wear during the day so I'm just focussing on street style.
*All pictures are from WeHeartIt.com

1. STRIPES
Striped sweaters to be exact. And black and white stripes to be even more exact. Not really sure why I feel like this is something for winter, but stripes can be very versatile. And of course the weather is getting colder and colder, at least in the place where I'm living, and a nice sweater can be very easy and comfortable on those depressing, dark days.

2. CHUNKY NECKLACES
Although the chunky necklaces have been popular for quite some time now, I think it is the perfect accessory to make winter sweaters a little bit more special. One version I have been loving lately is the chunky golden chains. They appear somewhat more subtle than other chunky necklaces, but still give a nice edgy touch to an outfit.

3. THICK WINTER COATS
This one is quite obvious since you want to be warm during winter when you're outside, but I still wanted to incorporate it in this list. Coats I especially have been liking are parkas. I just like the appearance of a somewhat oversized coat.

4. BEANIES
Unfortunately I do not own any, but I really do love the look of a beanie. And they keep your head warm of course, so it might be an essential.

♥

5. FUZZY SOCKS
They're just so comfortable and cute. They can be a little bit too thick for wearing them in shoes, but I still really like them just to wear around the house with a cup of hot chocolate next to the fireplace.

Do you have any other trends for this winter you like?

Striped out | OUTFIT

Finally an outfit post again. I was waiting for the weather to clear up so I could take pictures outside, but unfortunately it has been raining a lot. I figured it wasn't going to get any better soon so I searched for other places to take the pictures. Until the weather is going to be a little bit better, I will take pictures inside.

DIY | decorating notebooks #1

Hey!
It has been quite some time since my last post, but I'm back with an easy and fun DIY. To get through the tough, boring days of school, there's nothing wrong with making it a little bit more fun. I collected some notebooks I wanted to decorate and here is what I came up with. These are all very easy to recreate, I just wanted to give some ideas to get the creativity started! To avoid a very long post, I divided it in different parts.

The pocket chalkboard
This one is probably my favorite, and super easy to accomplish. The thing you will need:
 ~ a notebook (preferably with a hard cover);
 ~ chalkboard paint + paintbrush;
 ~ chalk;
 ~ decorating supplies (optional).

Chalkboard paint is basically paint with a very matt finish. You could probably use matt paint, but the endresult will not be as great as when you'll use official chalkboard paint. The only thing you really have to do is paint the cover of your notebook with the calkboard paint. I suggest you paint the inside of the cover, because the chalk could smudge when other books or notebooks slide against it. Another thing you could do is fold a small envelope where you can store some chalk.

Finally, I decorated the edges with some fabric tape for a clean and neat finish.

Now you can draw silly faces or beautiful *uhuhum* portraits of your absolute favorite teachers! Have fun, be creative and I'll talk to you next time.

It's Mah Birthday!

Hello everyone :)
I haven't posted in quite a long time, due to school and 'fun' things like that. Sorry for that! I just wanted to make a quick post about my birthday which is today! (Oktober 3rd, for those who live in a different time zone).
I didn't really celebrated it today, but I definitely will in the near future. I actually got the presents from my parents way before my birthday. My camera (also partially a present for this Christmas) and a ticket to Vampire Weekend this november, which I'm so excited about!

Here's a little picture of the shirt I wore today (I didn't know what else to say, so I thought I include a picture to dress this post up a bit. I failed lol).

What have you been up to?

August Favorites

August is already over, which means it's time for a monthly favorites again. Here are all things I have been loving for the month of August.

Tumblr

CLOTHING
I am still absolutely in love with this pair of shorts. I was looking for a pair of dark blue denim high waisted shorts and when I found these I fell in love immediately. I think the embroidered lightning bolts are so cute ^^

ACCESSORIES
I found this watch a little while ago at my local drugstore. Originally the price was €9, but I got an extra 50% off. So for only €4,50 I bought this cute watch with rosegold details and I LOVE it! Not sure if it's just me, but I feel like I can find the most odd things at my drugstore, haha.

MOVIES
Past month I went to the cinema again to watch The Heat. It's a movie filled with comedy and action, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. I personally found it hilarious, but I can understand why it might not be some people's cup of tea. If you do not like a lot of action or a certain sense of humor I would not recommend this film to you.

MUSIC
Avicii - Wake Me Up
Ellie Goulding - Burn
M83 - Reunion

I feel like it's a short one, but these are really all favorites I have for the month of August. Thank you for reading! Make sure to 'like' my facebook page if you haven't already and I'll talk to you next time :)

Back to School Resolutions

First day of school is coming up again so I decided to make a list for myself with resolutions to keep this year organised. I really should, since it's going to be the final year of secondary school/ high school (whatever you want to call it (; ) with all the exams and stuff. I'm being honest with you right now: I had a hard time last year to keep on going without desperately sitting in a corner crying over my life. Well, I wasn't that desperate, but still. And although everybody keeps telling me the fifth year (which was last year) is the hardest of all six years, I'm not reassured coming year will be any easier. The only thing I am sure of is the fact that coming year is definately one of the most important years of my entire life.

1
Keep my desk organised.
I'm glad I didn't count the times I couldn't find important papers, books, notebooks and other daily school stuff on my desk because it was such a mess. To prevent myself of getting incredibly frustrated I'm going to try keeping my desk clean and organised.

2
Go for a run
I found out about this last year and it really helped my out. I can get stressed very easily and going for a run can help reduce stress a lot. I hope my school schedule will have at least one or two days where I have the first two classes off so I can go for a run in the morning.

3
Make my homework
Ok, let me explain something a little bit. For some subjects I really do my homework, for example for subjects I'm having a hard time with. But for some subjects I wouldn't do it, just to have more time to do something else. At the end of last year I felt more confident during tests of subjects I alsways did my homework of than the ones I didn't. To avoid stressful situations I'm going to try doing more homework.

4
First comes school, then fun things
I believe this one speaks for itself. I've got to remember life can be so less stressful if I just didn't procrastinate that much.

I'm going to school again on the 26th of August. I really hope I can stick to them and close my secondary school/high school career without unnecesary stress and break downs. Then I can focus on the things I want to do with my life.

Your Guide To Flawless Glowing Summer Skin

The lovely Michelle contacted me to make a blogpost on how to keep your skin in the best condition during the summer months. She works at a spa in New York City and wished to share her knowlegde with others about the dangers the sun can have on our skin. Of course I would share her tips! Not only because my skin is a very light shade and it gets sun burned really fast, also because even if your skin may not get sun burned as fast, chemicals in a lot of sunscreens may damage your skin.

She provided me with a list of tips on how to keep your skin in the best condition possible during the hottest months of the year. I am here to share them with you!

Your guide to flawless glowing summer skin

The summer months are here is with it come all the fun things to do. But the sun can be harsh. Therefore it is essential to take care of your skin. Below are helpful tips plus a DIY recipe to get a healthy, beautiful complexion.

1.
A cooler shower is better for your skin in the hot months. Hot showers will most likely make your skin dryer. After a lot of sweating, taking a cool shower helps calm your skin, which in turn decreases breakouts of acne.

2.
Wear a hat when your outside. For full protection go for a brimmed hat -a baseball cap can only give you partial protection from the sun.

3.
Using a body scrub in the shower is one of the best ways to exfoliate in the summer. Make sure to give extra care where skin is rougher, like elbows. After showering, finish with an oil or rich body cream.

4.
For a beautiful summer complexion, cantaloupe is the melon to use. The fruit is not only delicious; it is full of antioxidants and hydrates the skin in its own unique way. The result is your skin looks radiant.

5.
Getting bug bites results in itchy and inflamed skin that can last for weeks. If you get bug-bitten skin, use an anti-itch cream twice daily until the itching is gone. Use a restorative cream twice daily to get rid of bug marks.

6.
Strawberries are the best resource for an even skin tone. Take a large strawberry, cut it in half and poke the flesh to get out the juices. Spread across your face in circles, leave on for 2 minutes, then rinse off. Over time, the strawberries can help age and sun spots.

.

7.
Use plain yogurt as a face mask. Put in on your face for 30 minutes, then take a cool shower and pat dry. The lactic acid has soothing benefits and calms the skin.

8.
Make sure to use a sunscreen on your hairline. The skin there is sensitive and can be damaged from UVA and UVB rays. So instead of a cream, use a sunscreen spray.

Beach Body Scrub
1/2 cup sea salt, finely grained
1/2 cup coffee beans, finely ground
1/4 cup sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon, or 20 drops, eucalyptus essential oil

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. In the shower, massage the scrub into damp skin firmly. Take your time to get full usage of ingredients. Rinse off well.

The sun's harmful UV rays will create discoloring on the skin. However, the body scrub inspired by the treatments used at Skana Spa– part of New York State Resort, Turning Stone, – they combine the traditional healing methods of the Oneida Indians to produce an experience that stimulates inner peace.

Olhão, Portugal

I just reasently got back from my trip to Olhão, a beatiful village located south of Portugal. Such a beautiful place, including colorful fisherman houses and -boats, a lot of boats. The place has a sense of tranquility and at night it turns into a lively village with numerous cafés street artists. We had a lot of fun and I'm a little bit sad to be back home again. The only thing I can do now is dreaming about this little piece of paradise.

July Favorites

Summer is moving along and August is already around the corner. How did the time go by so fast? I feel like I've been sleeping the most part of the year, which is probably true but it's just at this point where I'm noticing it, haha! The problems of a lazy person. But in all seriousness, Christmas is already in about five months, that's such a crazy feeling. Maybe I'm just weird and the only one who thinks like this, but anyway, it's time for my monthly favorites again.

FASHION
Since there were already a lot of discounts in shops this month, it was time for me to go a little crazy. I didn't really have a lot of summer clothing and the weather became amazing, so I actually had a legit reason to go shopping. There were a couple of nice things I came across and one of them I've been loving a lot for the month July.

~Light beige floral shorts: The color, the pattern, the material, just everything appeals to me. Perfect for summer and super cute, in my opinion.

PRODUCTS
Since there were quite some discounts flowing around the drugstores, I've been trying out some new products and I'm actually really happy with some of them!

~Garnier PureActive Anti-imperfection 24hrs moisturiser: I can name a ton of positive things this products does to my skin, but I'll try to keep it short. Firstly, this products applies really smoothly to the skin. The time it takes to completely sink into the skin is so short! I'm not sure if it was my skin that was just really dry, but I'm still amazed. The smell to it is pleasant, it smells like all the other Garnier PureActive products. Lastly, my skin just looks a lot better after using this product for about two weeks.

~Inecto Pure Coconut Intensely Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream: There's probably nothing really special about this product. I just like the way it moisturises my hands. I also really love the smell. Before I tried this product I thought I didn't like the smell of coconut. Now I know I have never been so wrong.

MUSIC
And again, a list of songs I've been listening the most during the month of July:

~M83 - Midnight City

~Lune - Leave The World Behind

~Mr Probz - Waves

All credits go to artists.
MOVIES
I've actually seen a couple of movies this month and one of them was just amazing. Now You See Me really appealed to me, probably because of the story and the actors. I just loved that movie. I don't like to talk about it a lot, in case you haven't seen it (yet) and I might spoil things. I'm just going to say it was awesome and really a movie to take into consideration when you're having some spare time.

OTHERS
~My camera

~Slushy Maker: This product is so random I'm actually laughing at myself. A little while ago, about a month, I was watching a video by one of my favorite youtubers where a product 'as seen on tv' was tested. I believe it is called the Squeezy Freezy in the United States. Just a few weeks ago there was a commercial on the Dutch television and it is litterally the same product: it works exactly the same and the cup is actually identical, as far as I can see. The only thing different is the name: Slushy Maker. I've been obsessed with this product. It's easy to use and you can turn any drink into a slushy.

I'm pretty sure that was it for my monthly favorites. I hope you enjoyed reading and maybe got some inspiration? I would love to know some of your favorites of July, so comment down below if you'd like!

AboutMyStyle

This is just going to be a quick post about a website I recently came across. I'm talking about aboutmystyle.com, a website with a new theme everyday and it's the idea you take a picture everyday within that theme. It is a lot of fun to take pictures of objects you wouldn't photograph normally, subjects you wouldn't think of.
The daily theme varies, but it's still mainly about beauty and lifestyle. Besides posting your own pictures, you can 'like' others or just scroll down to get inspired. You even get the chance to win something, like a giftcard, if your picture gets popular.
Although I just found out about this website, I'm already enjoying it quite a lot. So if you're having some spare time I suggest you would just go to aboutmystyle.com, it can be really enjoyable to watch other people's perspectives on the themes. And as the header of the website says:
Fashion fades, only style remains the same.

* This picture is the one I took for today's theme: Skin products
